The master sources file in Word 2007 can get fairly extensive.

Is there a way to sort it, or, even more preferably, search it for a specific sort you need at a later point in a different document that that used to enter the source originally?

I haven't used this feature before but since the file is in XML then sorting it manually in a text editor will be pretty straightforward but timeconsuming if you don't know how to build an xml transform.
