I'm running Office 2003 Pro, SP3, on Vista Home Premium 64, SP2. Whenever I access the Help menu in any of the Office applications, either from the menu bar or from F1, the application crashes. The crash message from, for example Word, is as follows:
    Problem signature:

    Problem Event Name: BEX
    Application Name: WINWORD.EXE
    Application Version: 11.0.8169.0
    Application Timestamp: 465f2a40
    Fault Module Name: unknown
    Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0
    Fault Module Timestamp: 00000000
    Exception Offset: 034e0ce0
    Exception Code: c0000005
    Exception Data: 00000008
    OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.3
    Locale ID: 1033

    Additional information about the problem:
    LCID: 1033
    Brand: Office11Crash
    skulcid: 1033

I've completely uninstalled Office and the reinstalled the suite. I run the same installation on other Vista 64 machines with no problem. Any suggestions will be appraciated. Thanks.

Have you noticed any problems with IE or with HTML help in other applications?

Thanks for the response. Help works fine in MSIE 8. All other HTML help files open normally in other applications.

This doesn't sound familiar, but I run XP and don't read the Vista forums, so I'm ignorant of most Vista-specific issues.

I think the next step (absent other suggestions) would be searching support.microsoft.com and the web.

Have you tried deleting or renaming normal.dot?

Thanks. I just tried your suggstion, but it didn't resolve the issue. As I mentioned, it happens in every app that's part of Office 2003, so Normal.dot should affect only Word.

Have you tried starting Word (or any of the other Office apps) with all addons disabled?

    For Word - Start | Run | Word.exe /a

    For Excel - Start | Run | excel.exe /s

Thanks very much for the suggestion. I was out of town, so I'm sorry for not thanking you sooner. However, disabling the add-ons did not change anything. The Office apps still crashed. I'm afraid that I may just have to go to Office 2007.
