Having downloaded and installed the MS Word Compatibility Software, I find that all my MS word documents have been converted to DOC format. When I click to open them I strangely get one of my photo editing programs opening with a message that it does not recognise the file.

The only way I can open them is to right click, then click "Open With Microsoft Word for Windows". That does the trick, but it only works for that particular file, so I face the prospect of having to do that operation for several thousand files . Is there a way to convert all the previous MS Word 2000 files so that they become DOC files?

    Thanks.

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge

Since day one Word files have ended in "DOC" extension, unless one had saved them with a forced different one.

Next time, Right click a file, then select 'Choose Default Program', then MS Word, but before that make sure that there is a check mark in the box "Always use..........".
This should set the default of Word to be DOC.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
