I must have been half asleep when I logged off the other night. Logged on the next morning and everything is lighter. Hard to read text. Can't edit photos because they don't ever look normal. Tried everything I could find in Windows Vista All-in- One Desk Reference fo Dummies. I have HP w2207h monitor and AUTO ADJUST does not help either. I've spent hours trying to solve this problem. Please help.

    Welcome to the Lounge.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "lighter". Is the entire screen brighter, or are the colors kind of washed out and muddled ?? Have you checked your screen resolution settings ??

If you could post ascreen shot of what you are seeing that would help us to understand what you mean.

Thank you for your reply. I have addded a photo(that's me with the guys),but it may look like a normal resolution to you. But when I view any photo, it looks like I used brightness and contrast settings to the extreme. I have tried changing the screen resolutions settings using Personalization, by using Auto Adjustment. I can't figure out what I may have done in the middle of the night. All text, no matter whether it's in Outlook or on the desktop or on the browser, is less bold and is a strain to read. It's almost like the old dot matrix system, but not as severe. There seems to be some kind of glare. The second photo I will now attach was taken at dusk and now looks like it has a bright light behind it or was taken in bright sunlight(I use it as desktop background).

OK I apologize. I tried to send you a photo of a shack in Pennsylvania but it was over 2 MG. Here's one of hamburgers and on my screen it looks like a funny light. It can be especially seen on the person's hands. I'm going to try taking a photo of my monitor and then see if you can see what I mean. I apologize again for all the attempts to senn you photos.

Have you checked your video cable is correctly seated at both ends?

    You might try this first......

Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Change colour scheme >Classic Appearance and Colours > Colour scheme > Windows Standard

If that doesn't do it or if the setting is already Windows Standard then you might try this....

Control Panel > Ease of Access > Ease of Access Center > Make the computer easier to see > Change text and icons size

Be sure to note what the original setting is/was and change back to that before going on if the change doesn't make a difference.

Making progress! Your second suggestion has fixed the issue in reading the text. Many thanks.
All photos, both on the browser and in Pictures, are still wierd.

Try a System Restore to October 3rd or before. It may just do the trick and if it doesn't, you can always undo the restore and be no worse for wear.

Because of the initial pictures you attached this is beginning to sound like it could be something strange going on with the monitor itself or (hope not) the graphics card. Can you perhaps "borrow" a different monitor to use for a moment?

Thank you. Working on getting monitor switched, hopefully today. Then we'll know more.
