Windows 7 b7100; and this installed before Hans. I have restored a Pre-Office image, so there shouldn't be any leftover files to bother with,..should there?

Are you logged in as administrator, or running the setup as administrator?

Tried it both ways. I never had to do that before either.

Did you look at the Office install log file? It is usually in your temp folder.

Do you have any other version of Office installed?

What is the FULL error message that you get?

When I Google this error number, there are several different full messages.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Joe, since I reverted -- again -- to a prior backup, I cannot -- yet -- say that I have reviewed that log.

I did find though that one backup seems to work, where another, later one, does not. So I know it is software related. I also know that the same error will come up whether I am a user or Administrator. And I know that the very same copy of Office worked fine three weeks prior.

Could it be a corrupted DVD driver? Because every time it stars out and lets me select the Office components I want to install, but then, when I start the process, it hangs right there, and never shows any progression through the install. It'll hang there for up to 15 minutes, and then give me the error.

Dave, I have no other version of Office installed, and I got the error after going back to a backup that was "pre-Office", so that none of the files would be there.

As I noted in my response to Joe, could it be a bad DVD driver? But the driver was just what Windows had installed, so...

I didn't write down the whole thing, but it said it couldn't find the files it needed for installation. I looked all over the net but couldn't find anything that seemed reasonably close to related.
