For some reason "Boxes" reminds me of John Conway's Game Of Life.

I see what you mean, although this is much simpler (it keeps you busy for a while though ).

My current strategy is to pick a color, say yellow, and stick with it, and to place a layer of some non-yellow color between my next move and the block that just went yellow. When I click on a box in that insulating layer, it picks up yellow from my previous block and transmits it through a great deal of the insulating layer and the next interior block.
I still have about 4 hours before bed-time though ....

I just got this with only 12 turns:

It is quite entertaining to try and reset all the unit to the same state

re: Post 797184 I think it is the second-from-the-top, right-hand-side. I'm going to have one more coffee then just click-it, and see the effects of my 13th move.
then it's time to go to bed.

    I focus now on
    1) choosing a color
    2) eliminating all the "closed loops" on the edge of the game (using one of those items as the trigger). Such a loop is shown in the attached.
    3) finally, using the chosen color to set all the squares.

Good ploy I have had a half hearted attempt and did it in 62 moves

Very good ploy. I think this one needs another 5 turns, unless someone can see a cunning strategy that I have missed.

    [attachment=85932:9turns.png]

It only needed one, when I clicked the third one along on the top row it rippled back on the second row and finished the job. I've clearly not understood the rules as well as I thought I did.

Got to this point with eleven moves.

It should take anther two moves to complete one color.

I wonder if there is any rule that says what color should be the color to obtain.

I found that jumping from one color to another is how I got to this point.

Also is there a way to enlarge the size of the other puzzles?

Not much on rules or game options.

Might take more than two - the one in the lower left corner can't easily be changed to purple.

You can pick any color - there's no rule that says which color to use.

My best effort up to now:

I think there's a bug in the algorithm though - sometimes disks totally unrelated to the one I clicked start to turn...
