The five current Office updates all failed, twice.
Error code was 646 the first attempt.
    Anyone know why?

Apparently lots of people are experiencing this problem. See Error code 646 for some suggestions, in particular the replies by David_O and SpiritX.

I had the update failure today.

Windows troubleshooter found the problem and corrected it automajikly and then update worked fine.

In the update window click on the "help with update" and in the help screen select troubleshooter.

    Hans / Steve,
Thanks for you responses. I have been away for a couple of weeks and just back to this problem.
Called the Microsoft 1-866-PCSAFETY folks today and a tech walked me thru a fix.
The 646 error code was the clue. Seems MS Office updates have a problem with their UAC.
Disabled the UAC and the installs went ok.
