Suggestions for Image Management Software

Can anyone make any recommendations as to good image management software?

I have a paid job coming up to sort through 5,000+ photos, transparencies, scans on CDs, negs etc and record in a database fields such as
Category
Format
Keywords
Thumbnail image (selected ones)
Date

There is no incumbent software so the field is clear although I suspect I would want to be able to quick fill large chunks of similar photos using Excel and then import those fields into the software.

Ideally the software solution will be able to feed a web browser to allow over 1,000 staff on the intranet to browse the thumbnails or search on the other fields.

All suggestions gratefully received.

Re: Suggestions for Image Management Software

I've been using ThumbsPlus from Cerious software for years. You'd be amazed at the things it can do and even more amazed at how easy it is to use. It can work on a network and integrate with MS Access. One feature that amazes me is its ability to search for duplicate and similar images by image, not file name(!). What I like most is the extensive support network. Cerious has its own news server and a big community of supportive users (not unlike our own here at WOPR). Cerious responds to every request for help and even modifies the product to meet our needs (let's pray that MS doesn't buy them out).

Download an evaluation copy at http://www.thumbsplus.com. For a $75US investment, you get a product that you'll use for a very long time. I know I have.

Hi
Trot over to my web site and get Irfan View. It's free, but nonetheless is a comprehensive image manipulator. If it won't do what you want, you can always discard it and buy something.
