I'm attempting to move a BE database to a new location with the NAME statement. This works well except in the following situation:
If a BE database (Adb) has been linked into the front end and is replaced with Bdb, Acces does not immediately "release" Adb (e.g. the .lccdb file is still present) and the NAME statement throughs an error. If the the front-end is closed the locking file is released and upon restarting the FE the NAME statment will now move Adb . How can I release/close this locking file with VBA?

Don't attempt to do this from a database that is linked to the frontend. You can safely move the backend database from a "maintenance" database that has no links to the backend.

Another issue you might want to consider - if this is a shared front-end on a server, doing that sort of thing will wreak havoc with your users. If it's an application where the front-end is located on the workstation and the back-end resides on a server, then your strategy will work.
