    Data Validation, List offset (Office 2000)

    I have a list composed of two columns, one containing code numbers (col 1), the other containing text associated with these codes (col 2). Elsewhere on the same sheet, I have a grid whose cells have Data Validation from a list with the drop down box. My issue is that I would like the drop down box to display the text from the list (col 2) to allow the user to understand his or her selection, but I want the cell to contain the code (col 1) after the drop down selection is made. The data validation (list) does not support multiple columns. I've messed around with trying to employ the "offset" and "vlookup" functions with Data Validation (list), but to no avail. Any help is appreciated.

    I think you are going to have to have the list use just the text and then have another column that uses VLOOKUP to get the code. I don't know how you can do exactly what you want using validation.
