    Hello,

How do I undo an install that went bad? During the final phase TRANSFERRING FILES AND SETTINGS the monitor displayed an OUT OF RANGE message as if it were unpluged.

This was an upgrade install directly over an updated Vista. I ran the advisor program and had to remove 2 incompatible programs.

I have attempted safe mode and the rollback option and I get the OUT OF RANGE message both times.

Can I return to the original vista? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you make an image backup of your system before you started?

Do you have the screen resolution set to the recommended value?

Have you check for updated graphics drivers?

    Joe,

    Thanks for replying so fast.

I did not have an image to fall back on, I thought the reolution was good to go, and I trusted
Windows upate to keep the graphics drivers up to snuff -- which I now realize was a big mistake.

I am presently reinstalling Vista, since I found the disc. I'll be checking drivers and resolution before venturing again.

Most people, me included, recommend NOT using Windows Update for drivers. WU tends to have older drivers. You are normally better off going to the device vendor.

    Joe,

Lesson well learned on drivers. Have gone back to Vista for now. My laptop upgrade went flawlessly, so I'll try again soon.

Just remember to backup first. Good luck.

All fixed with new drivers and a standard resolution instead of the custom one I had before and all is well!
