I'm editing a report and need to make the header follow normal capitalization procedure- capitalize 1st word and all proper nouns. Every letter is capitalized though, and I cannot downcap them (I tried ctrl+shift+A). I pasted the text into a new blank document and encountered the same problem, so there must be some Word setting that I need to toggle to remove this forced capitalization. Anyone?

Is it possible that the font used for the heading is one that exists in caps only? For instance a font like Algerian or Castellar is caps only and it doesn't matter how hard you try, you can't make it lower case.

Also, make sure that the check boxes for "Small caps" and "All caps" in the Format Font dialog are clear.

That seems to be the correct place to look, and I removed the check from "All caps" which only fixed the 1st word in the title (I had the entire title highlighted). None of the other words in the title are responding to this command. Strange.

Have you tried the Change Case dropdown in the Font section in the Home tab of the ribbon (with the title selected)?
