    I am trying to create a shortcut (Icon) that will open a read only excel workbook and minimize it and then open another workbook that will remain open.

    Read Only workbook = Library
    Open workbook = MasterX2

    Thanks in advance,
    Cindy

    Start Excel.
    Open the Library workbook and minimize it.
    Open the MasterX2 workbook.
    Select File | Save Workspace...
    Provide a name for the .xlw file, and click Save.

    When you open the .xlw file, it should open both workbooks in the same window layout as when you saved the .xlw file.

    Right click on a tab in the Library book and choose view code.
    Double click on the ThisWorkbook in the Project window on the left.
    paste the following in the code window.

    Code:
    Private Sub Workbook_Open()
    'mins amd maxs workbooks
    ActiveWindow.WindowState = xlMinimized
    Workbooks.Open Filename:="C:\MasterX2.xls"
    ActiveWindow.WindowState = xlMaximized

    End Sub

    Change the path to the correct location of your MasterX2 sheet.

    See Save workbooks in an arranged workspace - it explains where the command moved to in Excel 2007.
