Future XP retail install

I know I've about read this somewhere, but cannot find it. Will the retail release of Win XP install over RC2, or will a clean install be required? I have RC2, but have not installed it while awaiting arrival of a new PC.

Re: Future XP retail install

The instructions that came with RTM (build 2600) state:

The supported Windows XP build-over-build install are:
Beta 2 toRC1 to RC2 to RTM
Beta 2 to RC1 to RTM
...............
The "Full" retail product will upgrade existing existing installations in-place or clean install. (Note: Upgrades with the Full retail over Professional Evaluation version will require immediate reactivayion at that time.)

Note that the "RTM" is what was Released To Manufacturing for the making of the OEM Gold and Retail copies of the OS. It is still best to do a clean install of ANY OS, instead of a upgrade over current version.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

my experience is that the clean install creates a new version. but how to reformat the disk, for example, during this process to get rid of previous stuffs.

Check out IMPORTANT A new installation deletes all programs or system files from a previous installation.

I believe that the language <<IMPORTANT
A new installation deletes all programs or system files from a previous installation.
>> applies to previous installations of XP not of previous versions of windows

You stated "applies to previous installations of XP not of previous versions of windows", and the answer is NO it will format the drive that you are installing the OS in. I have been beta testing since Beta2 and have had the install format the install drive. I do dual boot, boot to the Win 9x OS and the install on a different drive, using the NTLDR dual boot from MS.
