Piriform, the makers of the popular utilities CCleaner, Recuva and Defraggler, have released a beta version of a new utility: Piriform - Speccy. It is an "advanced System Information tool for your PC".

It'll be interesting to see how it compares with existing utilities of the same type, such as PC Wizard.

    The web page states:

Please note this is a beta version of Speccy and should only be used by advanced users on test machines. We recommend you wait for a final release version before downloading.

So download and use at your own risk.

They also appear to make a new program called Program Duplicator (oh, and a defragmenter called Defraggler).

    (Sorry, couldn't resist it.)

Fortunately I am an "advanced user" <chortle!>, so I've tried it and the "advanced System Information tool" produces similar results to all the other such tools, but on a far-too-dark background. Personally I prefer the mixture of SIW for hardware, with very detailed CPU and memory info from CPU-Z/CPUID.

Still, as the French say, pithily, "Chacun a son outil avancé de l'information de système"...

I didn't know about that one - I wonder if it's going to cause problems for Piriform...
