I am trying to create a hyperlink to a specific location in a Word document from my Excel spreadsheet. I have set up bookmarks in the Word document to mark the various locations I need to link to.

If I insert a hyperlink in my Excel spreadsheet to a Word document, all works fine. However, when I click on the Bookmarks button in the Insert Hyperlink dialog box in Excel, I get the message "MS Excel could not open this file or could not parse a file of this type".

Can anybody please explain why this is happening? Or is there any way I can do this differently?

Any help will be gratefully accepted. Thank you.

The Bookmarks button doesn't work with Word documents, only with Excel workbooks.
Instead, enter a hash sign and the name of the bookmark after the path and filename in the Address box, e.g.

    C:\Documents\Test.doc#MyBookmark

Turns out it's the same as it used to be in FrontPage - I should have thought of that!!

    Thank you very much Hans.
