When we went to IPB in January, it was suggested to me that I use the acronym tag to get "Al Hoffman" to popup when someone hovers on my sig. That worked and still would except that the acronym tag has now been fixed and it puts a dotted line under the acronym and under the middle of my (old) sig.

So, as Brian recommended, I took out the acronym tag and tried to use the title= tag which should work but doesn't. Anyway, my signature NOW is only a link to my web page with NO popup. I don't know why the IPB software doesn't allow the title= tag.

    ----- EDIT BY BRIAN L. -----

The solution to this issue was posted by Leif in Comment #40. Placing the alt and title attributes before the src attribute in the img tag is part of the working code. If IP.Board 3 is replacing the text of the title attribute with a blank space (when the title attribute comes after the src attribute), that is a bug. We'll report this to IPB, if we can confirm the behavior. Thanks for your work on this.

All I get when I hover over the sig is a single character blank box?

I don't know what you're seeing Bob, but there should be nothing there any more. I tried to get a screnshot of it but couldn't do it?
The only way to describe it is, it's only a very small ( edit ) box, the size of ONE character, under my cursor when I hover over yor sig. I'll have to try it with others to see what it does or doesn't do. [attachment=86689:igiveup.gif]

Are you all IE8 users? I don't see any tooltip in Fx3.5.

It DOES appear to be an IE8 issue as I also DO NOT see anything in Fx but do see the attached in IE.

If the behavior is consistent, you should also see it hovering over the (linked) image in your signature.

That's it ! In your first example.

    I'm using IE 8. Don't know why I couldn't get a screenshot of it.
I am glad to see that others see it too. Thought I was going off the deep end. More than usual, that is.

I don't know if our programmer(s) will be able to fix the title= tag but it also has something to do with the different way Fx and IE8 render tags. Here's the answer (I think) to the little square box.

I think it IS an attempt by IE8 to show the title tag. Here's why: my current signature as did my test posts, contains an EMPTY title tag put there by the Lounge software. I tried to put my name in it and the software won't allow that. I tried to delete it and move the title tag to the end of the image code (where it would normally be) and it won't allow that either. Here's what's in the raw HTML of my signature:
