Mark forum read not working right

It looks like 'Mark forum read' is not working quite right.

If I click on it in this form, and then come back into the forum, some messages still have the orange unread icons. Reloading the page does not help.

Make sure you have your browser set to refresh/reload every time you visit a page.

Re: Mark forum read not working right

    Eileen,

    I don't know if that's it.

I get the problem, but only when I've been at the forum on my home computer, and then come into work. Posts which I've read at home are still in orange when I come into work. I see new posts as well, but I have to spend extra time just trying to work out what is really new and what isn't.

It's entirely consistent on one computer- once read, it stays yellow. I am (permanently) logged on at both computers- I get the "Welcome gwhitfield" on bith. Refreshing the page does not change the colours.

Plus some of the new posts in a forum with 0 replies that I've never read are yellow without being opened. And it's not only the icons. I just marked the VB/VBA forum as read and it cleared the "new posts" number from the Visio board in the index!

Different machine, different window, different browser = different cookie!

I'm not set to reload each time, but I press Ctrl+Refresh, and the results do not change. Same problem.

Re: Mark forum read not working right

    Eileen,

That is a big problem for me. Is there any way I can coordinate the two? If I log out of one machine before I go onto the other, will that work? Or if I have the same browser on both, will that help? (Woody has warned against IE5.5 with O2K, so I have 5.0 at home; but 5.5 is the only choice we have at work).

I thought you said something about being database based, not cookie-dependant. Obviously, you need a cookie to determine if I'm already logged on- but having determined that, it doens't then access the same database?

The problem aony appears to be one way. Coming home from my IR5.5 machine, the messages at home under 5.0 are all working OK.

I have to confess I don't really understand the mysterious inner workings. I'd try logging out at work, copying the cookie and taking it home with me, then doing the same at home. Might work... Maybe you'll notice something different about the cookie...

Re: Mark forum read not working right

Someone please enlighten me - EXACTLY what is supposed to happen when I chose 'mark all read'?

I'm seeing no difference between the display for messages I've already read vs. messages unread vs. the appearance of a forum after I've 'marked read'.

Am I still supposed to see all the messages? Are they supposed to change color?

Re: Mark forum read not working right

Assuming that you are set to receive cookies and that you have come in with the same browser on the same machine (and not from an email link) usually any messages that you haven't read yet are flagged New and have an Orange Icon. If you hit the MarkForumRead button then all the Icons go Yellow and the New flags disappear.
