    just got the book windows for dummies and trying to find the section to understand full system recovery to clean out my computer and what is the best way to save all my files onto disk so i do not lose them

    Welcome to the Lounge.

    From what you are saying, it sounds like you want to do a reinstall of your OS but want to save your data before you do. Is this correct ?? The information you provided is somewhat vague.

    This will do it for your files and settings, it's included in Vista:

    Works best with an extra internal or external HDD or over a network.

    For data you can also use the excellent free cloud storage options:
    1. DropBox 2GB synch - really easy to use
    2. MS's Sky Drive 25GB backup
    3. MS's Live Mesh 5GB synch
