How about a corner for thank-yous to those solving our problems, or whatever we're grateful for at a particular time?
And, this could include any followup that relates someone having given something really helpful -- by the particular poster?

Good idea. On at least one Linux forum I seek help in, there's a "Thank you" button on each post. If the poster has been deemed helpful, click the button and his or her thank you meter clicks up another digit.

Having said that, it's sad measure of Internet users' manners, to note how few questioners take the trouble to use the button.

Just my personal opinion and some comments.

For reference, there is another recent thread on the topic [topic='769106']here[/topic].

Not all forums work the same or look the same.

It's true that not all participants in Internet forums give credit where credit is due. Using some thank you link or button will not change this. It will perhaps be "easier", but more on that below.

As we all know, a solution can be very simple and straightforward; a question and answer can be over in a few minutes (we are often very quick, here in the Lounge), but it can also be a more complicated issue, with many follow up questions, lack of information, different tests etc. Even if it is voluntary to give help, it does take some time.

It is then very nice if the OP in the thread posts a comment when given a solution; a short "thank you message".

Since the Lounge has been around for a long time, there is a lot of knowledge gathered here. Part of that knowledge is due to the feedback that is received when someone has solved a problem. A short “thank you message" can thus inform everyone how the problem was solved; this is useful for other Loungers.

Not only that, when there are several possible solutions provide it is nice to note which worked and which did not.

As Argus and Dave have stated, it's been traditional here to post a thank you and a short note on what worked in the thread itself. If you are reading the thread and the solution posted worked, it's easier to know that if it's in the thread.
