Desktop Icons Obscured

I'd appreciate any help with this issue. I did an in-place upgrade to Win 7 Home premium from XP Professional using Laplink PC Mover. Everything went extremely well except for one issue. All of my desktop icons that start programs are obscured by another graphic that looks like a word document. So far the suggestions advised me to replace my graphics card which i was going to do but that didn't solve the problem. I can double click and the program starts. It just looks nasty.

If I pin the shortcut to the task bar, the icon displays fine. Any suggestions???

What happens when you right-click on a blank area of the desktop, and choose "arrange by..."

Looks to me like a problem with the shortcut arrow that is usually overlaid on most desktop icons.

You could try removing or restoring the shortcut arrows using the instructions on WindowsSevenForums:
