Hi , i recently installed windows 7 and had a few problems but i eventually got there. I use a lot of Excel files which i transferred to an external drive prior to installing W7. Now when i use these files i am unable to because they have become 'read only' files. Is this a problem because of new security in W7 ? I have tried various options as in playing around with administrator options on individual files , but nothing seems to work. I previously used Windows XP and use Office 2007 for excel , word etc. Any ideas . Thanks, Blocka

One possible reason is "Read only" status of external drive, to/from where you have copied the data. Pl check the property of external drive. Is it marked as "Read Only"? If so, uncheck the read only option and save files again.
