My system has recently started showing only a black screen during the boot (or reboot) cycle. Once boot is completed, starting any program will turn on screen and computer works normally after that.

This is an HP Pavilion desktop, running XP Media Center edition. Monitor is a Viewsonic V922. Power management is disabled. System has worked normally for years!

Hi Jerry - Thanks for the reply. No luck however. Nothing happens until boot is finished and then start a program. This keyboard has a row of buttons across the top for "Email" "Search", etc., and when one is punched it starts the browser and says the keys "haven't been programmed" and the screen comes up.

I did notice that the Power LED on the monitor is flashing slowly during boot, which I am guessing indicates it is not receiving input.

The video is an Nvidia 6150LE, and has the latest driver, which is over a year old.

You might try swapping the keyboard for a "plain jane" keyboard and seeing if that changes anything ?? Or perhaps reinstalling the software for the existing keyboard might resolve the issue.

Did you update your drivers from Nvidia or HP?
