# Thread: Dinner for Three

1. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to these things, so trying to figure this out gave me a headache.
I am sure though, that someone can explain it to me in this forum.
If this is a repeat post, I apologize.

Three friends have a nice meal together, and the bill is \$25

The three friends pay \$10 each, which the waiter gives to the Cashier

The Cashier hands back \$5 to the Waiter

But the Waiter can't split \$5 three ways, so he gives the friends one dollar each and keeps 2 dollars as a tip.

They all paid \$10 and got \$1 back. \$10-\$1 = \$9

There were three of them 3 X \$9 = \$27

If they paid \$27 and the waiter kept \$2: \$27+\$2=\$29

Where did the other dollar go? \$30 - \$1 = \$29

That is the trick line. The \$30 is only there to confuse you.
\$30 less 3 x \$1 = \$27, less \$2 tip = \$25 - the cost of the meal.

3. Good one. I can pose these puzzles to the kids when we have dinner together. Thanks for the nice one

4. Well I appreciate the explanation it had me going. Thanks

5. I like this, the missus won't though. This has great potential to confuse 'er for hours!!

6. Your "missus" shouldn't be the only one confuzzled I'll give the ole "mister" a shot at this

Hey Jude
