Hi all....I have an issue that just will not go away...whenever I click My Computer, it takes forever to load.....the bottom of the screen will show 19 items or 20 items (whatever..just depends on whether I have a peripheral attached)....none of that is the issue-- the porblem is the very mong time it takes to 'load' and reveal all of the items......and if I click in the center of the screen, the hour-glass appears and the computer is 'working' but nothing appears on the screen for up to 5 minutes.....any suggestions? Thanks.

What do you have attached to the system ??? 19 or 20 items in My Computer seem a bit excessive to me. I have 2 partitions on my primary drive, a second HD in the case, CD-RW & DVD-RW, Zip 250, 3.5 floppy and a scanner attached to my system, full time and several (4) USB external drives that are only on for certain tasks and don't have any abnormal issues. It takes a tad longer to load My Computer than "normal", but nothing like what you describe. Is everything really necessary, or could you disconnect most items for general use ???

BTW - Your first name wouldn't be Donovan, would it ???

On startup they are trying to connect and can not, that MAY be why it takes so long to startup.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Windows Explorer is trying to connect to each of the disconnected drives. It must wait until each times out to display anything. If those drives are mapped when you login to the VPN try dropping the mapping.

@dmcnab - goto Control Panel > Folder Options > View > untick "Automatically search for network folders and printers". This will greatly reduce the laborious delay when launching My Computer. Worked for me! Hope this helps.
