I just installed Windows 7, and consequently Windows Live Mail.

I like it alright, but, at present am staying away from the add ons.

I try to keep all my data on a separate drive for easy back up, and attempted to store my Window Live Mail Contacts over there.

I am not sure if I accomplishe this or not, since now, I can't find my Contacts on either my C or my D Drive.

Does anyone know where the Contacts should be stored on my C, or where they might be stored on my D

    Thanks

I have, Malcom. When I go there, there is one contact listed. ME!!!

They show up in Windows mail just fine, as advertised, but, I don't know where they are on my computer.

I might try this Google Desktop thingy. did a little research and it doesn't look TOO invasive.

PS Thanks for moving my message.

It all depends on your Email service i.e. @hotmail.com @hotmail,co.uk @live.co.uk You have to access it direct, click options then export contacts as .csv format and save to your location of choice.

I have the same problem - would like to find the folder where my Contacts resides. The folder called "Contacts" under c:\User\my name is empty. I moved my Windows Live Mail folder to my D: Drive but can't find anything called "Contacts" in it. Where could that slippery little devil be?

    Hi All,

The Windows Live Mail contacts are totally separate from the C:\Users\Username\Contacts folder that you can view in Windows Explorer.

The Windows Live Mail contacts are stored in an .edb file in folders under C:\Users\Username)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts. The \AppData folder is a protected operating system folder, so you have to turn on viewing (in Folder Options) in order to see the folders and files under \AppData.

It is not recommended to edit anything in the AppData folder. There are some registry files in \AppData and several junctions that provide for compatibility with Windows XP. If any of these are altered or deleted, the consequences would be a major headache. The best way to transfer the contacts is via Export/Import.
