Every so often my CD Drive light goes on. There seems to be no pattern to this: I can be on the Internet or working on a document and on it will flash.

Can this be avoided and what does this mean?

    Thank you.

Windows or programs often asks your disks what they are up to. Not an issue you need to worry about.

It is not something I've been aware of happening without good cause.
Do you have a CD or DVD in the drive when this happens?
Do you have any CD/DVD writing software that loads at start-up? - I can imagine that regularly checking if there is media in the drive.
