Unable to connect to Inyrtnet after Update

A Critical Update was automatically installed in my Windows Vista Home Edition. I have Internet Explorer 8.
The Update is "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows 8 (KB976325). After it installs, I am unable to access Internet Explorer 8. It says this page cannot be displayed. It has "Diagnose on the page, but it has offers no help.
After uninstalling it, I am able to get back Internet Explorer. I was told to try and find an Internet Explorer 7, or just use Firefox. There is a a Bulletin that came out about this Update, and how to fix it but it didn't work. If I remove it so I can use Internet Explorer, my computer is venerable to problems.
