My question relates to more than one lounge area so please move if this isn't a good place for this post.

I've been asked to create a yellow page ad using the Cambodian Khmer language (Catalan?). I don't know this language so I was hoping to have my contact send it to me by email where I could cut and paste it into Photoshop. But they haven't been all that cooperative so I've turned to looking for a free online translator.

I'm using Windows XP Pro, Firefox or IE 8, and MS Office 2003. I figured out how to add Catalan to Window's Language Bar.

It helps to see some websites that are in Khmer but not all. Like with http://www.english-khmer.com/ the translation is works but I can't cut and paste the words from that website. Then there's http://www.khmerlanguage.com/ where the translation is garble but does look like I could cut and paste. My guess is that I don't have the right font to see the translation?

If I could convince my contact to be more helpful, I was hoping they would fill in the words I need into a Word 2003 document. But I don't know if I have the right font to view the words if could convince him to do it. So far he's sent me back a PDF document, not the Word doc I sent him, with translations to words I didn't ask to be translated.

So far this is by far and long harder to do than prior Spanish ads. Anyone know what I could try next?

Catalan is the language that is spoken in (North) East Spain. The main city in the region is Barcelona. On that basis, I'm not sure that adding Catalan to the Windows Language Bar is of direct help.

The Ekreach V3 font that is available on the front page of http://www.khmerlanguage.com/ will only let your browser show Khmer characters as they are meant to be seen, not render them in Western characters.

Have you tried copy|pasting the words in the PDF document into a Word document?

    Hope This Helps

Yup, the Language Toolbar says Catalan but when you look at the Catalan settings you see "Khmer Unicode Keyboard (NIDA 1.0). (Image attached) Not sure why those are connected. I found the instructions for this here: http://www.cambodia.org/fonts/

That would explain why I couldn't cut and paste from the web page. I have Ekreach installed. I also have Khmer Unicode for Windows XP installed.

When I do all I get are boxes instead of characters. I must not have the font I need.

You might try this site. This page will do word translations from English to Khmer.

If you get stuck, you can use a translation service like this one and, if your contract allows, backcharge the client siting lack of cooperation for the reason.
