As a new joiner via Windows Secrets, I liked to add some comments about procedures for consideration.

    1. As a reader of threads, it would be nice if the original submitter would acknowledge that s/he received a solution that worked and which one worked if several were offered.

    2. Maybe a reminder could be inserted in posting header(s) requesting that the original poster return and post a "problem solved" tag when that occurs.

    3. If the Lounge could offer a mechanism available to only the original poster and the administrators or monitors to lock the thread from further entries, this would serve to declare a solution found or no longer of interest to the original poster and to cause new posters to start new threads for newer versions rather than restart old threads and maybe confusing issues.

    4. If a batch application could be run against the database to determine open threads that have not been updated in some time frame, say over a year (make this a parameter value so it can be changed as appropriate), that the open threads are closed via this batch application with the appropriate wording in the comments field. This application could handle threads where no one was able to "finalize" the threads for whatever the reason.

As an old mainframer I have designed and coded such applications, but I do not know how much leeway the Lounge has to create such an application for their database.

As a long term user of the lounge, I think this would completely change the character of what we do.

The purpose of the lounge is not just to answer questions to the satisfaction of an original poster, it is to share and learn from each other. When someone adds something new to a two year old post because they have had a useful insight this can be very useful.

I would like respectfully to add that I found the "Lounge" totally adequate the way it was before being merged with WS. I also think that it is just simple courtesy for the submitter of a question to bring a sort of fluid closure to it when a satisfactory answer had been given. This surely sends a signal of appreciation to the kind people like..... (SORRY to mention names, but great guys like HansV, the Doc & Big Al just to name three of the many who deserve credit.) & who I'm sure, do not look for a pat on the back- but who have -sometimes answered my questions long after midnight. I sure hope those whose names appeared regularly with answers, don't fade from the forum, this would be a shame after so many years of leading guys like me out of the fog of confusion & bewilderment. As a silver surfer, most of what I have learned about this very complex technology I owe to the volunteers who have patiently explained things to me via the lounge. MANY THANKS all you unsung heroes. Regards Dave.
