AutoComplete - switch off (2000)

When I drag down "3 door saloon" it becomes 4, 5, 6,door etc,
When I enter the model 9-3 it turns into a date when I copy the file to csv for transmission.
How can I turn these features off?
I have unchecked the box in Tools - Options - Edit-Autocomplete but it seems to make no difference.

Drag with the *right* mouse button and choose copy.

Exporting to CSV causes this to happen. Have you tried formatting those cells to text before entering the numbers and exporting to CSV?

Yup, I have that entire column set to "text" but it does not seem to make any difference.

Did you format the cells to 'text' before entering the data or after?

If it was after, excel probably hasn't registered the format. If you press F2 and enter on all the 'text' areas it will register.

There's a lot quicker way to do this, but it escapes me at the moment - this formatting thing appeared on the board a week or so ago.

Re: AutoComplete - switch off (2000)

I thought that worked but when I save the csv file and open it again the 9-3 has changed to a date. I checked that the original column was formatted "text", copied the data (not the column) elsewhere, pressed F2 to confirm the text format in the original column and copied the data back againagain (there are 3100 rows so I could not retype). Then I saved the file as csv and the entry remained correct. I format that column as "text" and save the file.
When I open it up again it is back to a date.
Any suggestions?

It is. Try help/index, type in "autofill", select "automatically fill in data based on adjacent cells", then select "copy data within a row or column" and you should get the following:

Copy data within a row or column

1 Select the cells that contain the data you want to copy.
2 Drag the fill handle across the cells you want to fill and then release the mouse button.

Existing values or formulas in the cells you fill are replaced.
