This problem is the fact that the link is broken or the image not any longer on the linked server.

    Where are you seeing this?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

All over the various posts in many forums ( not all posts, all locations ) including some of your posts, Dave. Again, not all. Many Loungers.
I just picked a post from Skitterbug at random just to show an example.

I have no problem viewing the images in that post.
A couple of them are from wopr.com, do you have any reference to wopr.com in your hosts file?

No, just the 127.0.0.1 normal one.

Here's another from JohnBF and from DocWatson just before that one. Again just picking these randomly.

Both of the posts you linked to look fine to me, the only images seem to be standard smilies or flags from www.wopr.com

I have seemed to notice that these mostly are from of the "old gang" at WOPR. Haven't taken notice of any from the new members?

I'm using IE8. This has been going on for some time since the new board conversion.
I always dump the temp files and refresh them. Shutdown every night. Cleared caches also.
Why just some posts from some of the old Loungers? Strange.

Is it only images that have the old wopr.com domain in the URL? If so, can you go out to a command line and ping www.wopr.com and tell me what you get?

    Thanks,
    Tony

Obviously I don't have the problem Viking33 <Bob> has with gifs not showing in posts, but I was curious about your request so I thought I'd try it. www.wopr.com gives me a time out, but www.wopr.com/S/yep.gif gives me a response! Now to see what Bob gets.

    Like Skitterbug, I get a timeout whether I ping www.wopr.com OR wopr.com.

Except for his first post, Bob's examples are from WOPR.COM (i.e. Skitterbug) and I see them just fine. However, I wonder about the very first post he made. The properties of that one show windowssecrets.net. Can that be right?

    Hi Al,

All of our servers are configured to ignore ping requests for security reasons so it should be timing out. What I'd be interested in is the IP address that is returned when he pings wopr.com. With all of the changes we've made over the last 6 weeks, it wouldn't surprise me if a DNS flush would do everyone here some good.

All user images *should* be coming from a different domain than windowssecrets.com. Our uploads directory is on a separate server (windowssecrets.net) as another security precaution. In some cases it is possible for a person to attach malicious code to an image file which, when the image is displayed in a browser, can be executed. Modern browsers, however, have a security measure built in that disallows the execution of code on one domain that is loaded from another. So in fact, *all* user uploaded content is stored on a separate domain to secure against this vulnerability.

This is a change from the way the lounge worked prior to the holiday break, so there may still be quirks to iron out.

    Thanks,
    Tony

OK, I'll get out of the way and let you wait for Bob's respons because, other than the first post, I'm seeing the images in the other examples.

But, just for grins, now that you've clarified it, I get 174.129.247.49 as the IP for WOPR.COM
