I am running XP with all the latest patches, updates, etc..

I like the classic desktop instead of the XP desktop and have set that as my favorite theme.

Lately when I restart my system, it comes up with the XP desktop theme and is set as my favorite theme.

When I click and apply the actual XP desktop theme listed, then select my favorite theme and apply, it returns to my favorite.

I haven't added any software lately, so I am not sure why this is happening.

I have Googled and knowledge based my dairy-air off to no avail !!

    Anyone have any ideas ??

I'm not sure what's going on, if there were a program on there similar to Windows Steadystate that would explain it but other than that...

A workaround might be to set it as classic and then make some really small change that you won't notice so that the Theme should become Windows Classic (Modified). Then right next to the Theme selection dropdown is the Save As... Give it a name and save it in Windows\Resources\Themes and then cycle applying the theme...and see if it sticks after that.

If it doesn't work there's something else going on that doesn't pertain just to the classic theme, but as I said coming in, not sure what that might be.

You might try a System Restore back to a date you are certain is before the problem began. Windows and other program updates have been known to do strange things in some instances.

If it doesn't work, you can always reverse the restore.
