I have used the data/subtotal routine over the years without issue, but once the list is sorted and the subtotals applied successfully, I remember there was a quick drill-down that appeared on the left of the spreadsheet, which showed the layers, and by clicking on the specific + or - layer, would filter out the data and just leave the respective subtotals.

On my latest PC, as I haven't used the subtotal routine for a while, when I needed to last week, can't see this option. This is using Excel97 - the shop only has licences for Office 97 and 2007, and I don't like 2007, but tried it as well, and still can't see this feature.

Has it been dropped or is there another quick way to filter. Manually is not an option - multiple subtotals over a 20,000 + row file.

    Any assistance appreciated :-)) TIA

found where I have gone wrong , the Auto outline or clear outline option seems to make things appear as I remember them.
