I love users. Their problems are always so creative ... and so are their explanations. <img src=/S/crazy.gif border=0 alt=crazy width=15 height=15>

Have you checked to see what that user's system settings are? Could she have changed the date format for her machine? Unless you're using a format function to turn a date into a string, you normally see it in the default date format for that particular machine.

    >>The backend is storing these dates in the format that appears on the screen as well. <<

FYI, if you are storing in date fields, then it doesn't store the format. This display is controlled by system options and any formatting you have on the date.

this users short date format is dd/mm/yy under the regional settings date tab, would that be causing it? should i request a change to mm/dd/yy?

That's up to you. The underlying date value is the same either way. You don't actually have an error, it's just that the user perceives it as an "error" when the date format changes from what she's set on her system. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>

when I checked the error records in the backend, it was storing the field exactly as it appeared on the screen, so if it was incorrect, it was stored incorrect. When I went in & fixed the record for her, it was displayed & stored correctly. I have ## / ## / ## format on the form for the field.

Do you mean she was entering the dates in the dd/mm/yy format? If so, then yes, the dates would go in incorrectly. I thought you were talking about displays.

Re: 1 mde form shows 2 diff date formats for users (97)

I am getting the same problem, the user enters the date in a Form control in one format, dd/mm/yy (as we're British <img src=/S/flags/UK.gif border=0 alt=UK width=30 height=18> ) and it gets reversed. I've checked in the underlying table and the date is wrong. However if the user enters it in 31/mar/01 format, it works <img src=/S/hairout.gif border=0 alt=hairout width=31 height=23>

I recollect seeing something somewhere about a setting for dates in Access, nothing to do with the Windows regional setting, but can't see it under options
    - does this ring any bells?

Re: 1 mde form shows 2 diff date formats for users (97)

    Well, according to help:

"Microsoft Access can display a wide range of international formats. To help ensure consistency among applications, Microsoft Access uses the regional settings specified by double-clicking Regional Settings in the Windows Control Panel for the predefined Number and Date/Time formats listed in the following table.

    ...
    Short Date Date tab
    Long Date Date tab"

The only date setting I recall in Access itself is the option to use 4-digit years.

Re: 1 mde form shows 2 diff date formats for users (97)

If the user enters "mar", they're telling Access which part of the date is the month, so it doesn't get confused. Otherwise, it "guesses" and guesses are frequently wrong. Take a look at <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=acc&Number=21766&page=& view=&sb=&o=&vc=1#Post21766>this thread</A> where someone posted a workaround for the automatic date correction problem.

Re: 1 mde form shows 2 diff date formats for users (97)

    Charlotte,

thanks, interesting thread. Think I'll have to use something like DAW's code to check the entered date

I'm still baffled as to why this particular user's site the date changes to the 01/01/01 style, when on other users and mine it changes to 01/01/2001 - I had him check his regional setting and he said is was UK
Do you know of any internal Access setting / registry / whatever that determines what it's "guess" on a bad date is?

Re: 1 mde form shows 2 diff date formats for users (97)

This may or may not be relevant to your problem, but Access will "second-guess" you if you enter a date that is incorrect in one format but correct in another. For instance, regardless of whether your computer is set for American (mm/dd/yy) or Canadian (dd/mm/yy) dates, 31/03/00 and 03/31/00 will both be interpreted as 31 March 2000. As a result, if you think you're in one date system but in fact you're in the other, some of your dates will be stored "correctly" (because of the second-guessing) and some won't.
