I currently have a D-Link DI-604 wired router for my home network. All 5 of my computers are XP-sp3. I am getting a new Windows 7 -64 bit computer to replace my main computer. The D-Link is old, but has not given me any trouble. Do I need to get a new router because of the new computer?

Also, the D-Link only has 4 ports, so I have to change the cable when I want to connect my laptop. I would like one with 5 or more ports. Can anyone suggest a wired router with 5 or more ports that would work with my new computer?

    Thanks,
    Sheila

You should NOT need to get a new router, I am using one from NetGear that I started using on Windows 98, when it first came out.

I also have more than 4 machines, I bought a 4 port switch and added it to the router. All I dis was plug into the switch with the cables that was to one of the machines, and then ran cables from the switch to the machine that I had used the cable from and then one from any other machine I bring in that needs network connection.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Netgear do a 5 port switch (FS605) for about $25. I'm sure you can find cheaper alternatives.

    cheers, Paul

    Dave and Paul,

It looks like a switch is my best bet- maybe the 5 port Netgear that Paul mentioned.

Thanks to both of you for the information!
