Wireless g tops out at 54 mb/sec and Wirelss n is the latest wireless standard and has greater range and tops out at a higher speed, as JoeP has detailed. I still use a g router so I have not experienced the n capabilities first hand. Wireless n routers are backward compatible with b and g so existing network cards and laptops will work fine, but the wireless on your computer must be wireless n capable in order to actually get the benefits of the n standard, and pretty much all laptops made in the last year or so are n capable. Checking the specs on your hardware will confirm your compatibility.

Some more things to consider: G is theoretical 54 Mb/s...N is 108Mb/s...the 600 Mb/s rating is just that: theory. You won't find a consumer wireless router faster than 108 Mb/s. Also, N propagates much better than G...the range is better, it goes through masonry better and can "get around corners" better. Lastly, when you are using an N router, doesn't mean that a G-rated wireless card receives at N...it will only receive at G...not only that, it can slow down any N device on your wireless LAN if not configured properly (ie: mixed)
