I have set rules to move certain emails from my inbox to subfolders upon delivery. The rules specifies that when an email with a particular email address or with a key word in the subject line appear, move it to the indicated subfolder. The rules work fine when I run them manually. But they will not work automatically.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Rob Caldwell

Is this standalone Outlook or used with Exchange server?

Have you recently added more rules?

Have you recently changed the rules?

Does it help if you check the "Stop processing more rules" in the Rules parameter options?

Are the rules checked (activated) in the Rule listing box?

Yes. I am using an exchange server in our office.

I have not added or changed any rules recently.

I do not see where to check "Stop processing more rules". Or the "rules parameters options".

When you create or modify a rule (in Outlook 2003), you go through four dialogs, "Select Conditions", "Select Actions", "Select Exceptions", "Specify a name (and other settings)". All those options you can check are what I mean by "the Rules parameters options". The "Stop processing more rules" is in the second dialog, "Select Actions"; in a new Rule in Outlook 2003 it's the 4th checkbox from the bottom of that options dialog.

Thanks. That helped me figure out where the "Stop Processing More Rules" is. So I have checked the box "Stop Processing More Rules" box and it has not done anything. The rules still do not work.

I have the same problem although not across the board, i.e. some rules work and others don't. They all worked in 2003 and since changing to 2007, I have re-entered all of them. I have the Stop Processing New Rules set as well. There doesn't seem to be anything different in those that don't work.

Rules can reside in two place, usually on the server or if local information is required then they reside on your PC.
If your rules are server based I would firstly check with your administrator that their scripts/processing scans/spam filters are not interfering or overriding with your rules.

I have same problem as JohnBF, but I know what & when it happened. Our Exchange Server 'died' so SysAdmin put us on a temp profile. When orig Server returned, rules popped saying this was a 'new PC' and asked if I wanted to use Rules on Server and PC. I answered Server, but they were blank, so I selected PC. Ever since, I can run rules manually and they all work, but even deleting and readding as specified in MS Article ID 287640 can not get rules back on Server vs. PC where they will be done automatically vs. manually after being delievered to the Inbox.
