The laptop is a Toshiba L355d with Vista Home Premium, 32-bit. Everything was fine until the cat walked across the keyboard, pressed unknown keys, and sent the system into hibernation, sleep, or ?????. How do I recover, short of disconnecting the battery charger and battery?

Have you tried pressing the power button?

Strange how one can overlook the obvious. perhaps it was the fact that it was the laptop, with a BATTERY.The power button reset everything. Thanx

We had the same problem with our cat. We learned to close the laptop when we are not at the keyboard; they like the warmth.

Now the backspace and the right shift keys do not function. Is this just a coincidental hardware problem or is there another possibility?

So, any ideas on how to keep the cat from walking on/lying down on my good clothes?

Hang up the clothes -- or hang up the cat.
