When left-clicking several of my desktop shortcut icons, a window pops up with the message: "Windows cannot accces the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item". I have searched many forums (including this one) as well as a number of "Google" searches of the internet with absolutely no results. I would sure appreciate a little help with this problem.

    TIA,
    Jack

Is there any pattern between the Targets of the shortcuts which exhibit this behaviour? (Right click on the shortcut, choose properties and then select (or look at!) the Shortcut tab).

If you can't readily discern a pattern, have a look at the Icons (in the Shortcut tab, click on the Change Icon button and look at the path at the top). And is one or more icons shown in the"Select and icon from the list below" pane each time?

(It's not a solution, just a couple of likely places to look...!)

Batcher, There doesn't seem to be any pattern in the in the icon targets and only one of them has more than one icon.
Thanks for taking the time to help.
