Link to source data always changes (Excel 2000)

I have a spreadsheet which has links to multiple files on a network drive. When I open this spreadsheet it changes the path of the links to my default excel startup directory.

WHY? WHY? WHY? and how do I stop it?

I end up doing a FIND & REPLACE, but I'm getting tired of repeatedly doing that.

    Hi TearsInTheRain

Is there any VBA code that runs when you start the workbook? The best way to tell is if you get the message about Macro virus and if you want to enable or disable macros...

Oh I see you don't have it turned on, well turn in on... ;-)

If you see that then I guess it is why, and the how to stop it depends on your familiarity with VBA.

You could upload a copy of the workbook and I'll help you with it.

There's no VBA involved. The file was created a few years ago in ver. '97 ( I only recently got 2000) & the macro virus protection is off, BUT other people use this file (with Excel '97) with the protection on & we all get the same thing.

I've just changed the links back to the correct locations and would you believe it, I can't get it to go wrong!!

I've attached a cut down version of the files as we can't post anything > 100k (i've tried).

    This preplexes me.

    Wassim,

Here is the other file - is this correct that you can only attach one file at a time??

    OK I got the workbook.
    1) Turn on the Macro Protection.
    2) You said there are no macros and I think I believe you, because I did not see any in what you sent.
    3) But the worksheet is protected and can't see where the formulas are, to be able to see if there are any data validation or something like that. Could you send a copy without any passwords?
    4) OK so maybe you do have some VBA code in the background. If you need to send me a full zipped copy to wassimnassif@hotmail.com. I think you have some sort of an Auto_Open or something in the Open event of the workbook.

Also if you can tell me how the links are changing, from what to what.

Maybe its the workbook that you are saving is changing location and as you save it, and thus the path to the linked files changes.

Let me know when you send the workbook to hotmail.

Have re-attached password protected file with the protection turned OFF (sorry!).

    The path s/be P:cededukavimain

but changes to C:PROGRAM FILESMICROSOFT OFFICEOFFICEXLSTARTukavimain

notice it retains the UKAVIMAIN ?????????

If you still want the full versions let me know

Could openning the file via explorer as opposed to Excel cause any problems?

Yes I would like a full version. If you have WinZip try and zipping the file and then send it to my hotmail account. I still think there is some VBA...

Opeing Excel via Explorer does not differ from the functionality stand point of the workbook. Only you will not see the file in the List of Recently used files.
