Could be a temp (*.tmp) file causing the problem. Did Word hang or crash at some point with your mail merge document open?
Exit Word and Outlook (if using Word as the default email editor) and search for all *.tmp and ~$*.do? files and delete those you find.
Although I may not be necessary, exit Access and search for all *.lbd files and delete those you find as well. Also, open your database and go to Tools/Database Utilities/Compact Database.
If you can't open the database then did you try to open it directly in Word and save it at some point?

Thank you, RAM.
My mail merge document never froze and I don't know what is causing it.
I'll try compacting it.

You should still do a search for all temp files as I suggested even though Word didn't hang or crash.
What you describe suggests a leftover temp file that contains a lock on the database. Also, you might want to try rebooting in case the Winword task is not being released.
Also, how are you opening the mail merge document programmatically from Access?

I'll try to delete all the temp files, but I'm working in a network enviroment, would it affect anything if I delete these files? (I don't want to cause any problem to the network or the company Im working for)
I'm running the mail merge documents from access using a module.
