M$ Vista is now taking 5 minutes to shut down, it only takes 2 minutes to start up?

I would think there has to be something running in the background that does not want to shut down, or some sort of malware. Click Run, then msconfig. This will show what apps are running. Perhaps you can find something you do not expect running. If you find something unexpected, you can stop it from starting by unchecking it, then restart. Do this until you find something that causes the shutdown to speed up.

See the "Using the Event Viewer" section at Troubleshooting Vista to help debug this issue.

In task manager, go to the processes tab and end half of them. Write down which ones you ended. Then try rebooting. If the problem persists, end the other half, and we can go from there.

I took a look at the event viewer but I couldn't identify any programs or processes that were causing my shutdown to take over three minutes. The name and path were blank on all the critical operational listings.
