I have XP on my desktop with Outlook Express and Win7 on my laptop with Windows Live Mail. In OE I can create groups without the group members being listed in the main contact list. In WLM it seems they need to be in the main list and then can be added to a group. In looking at specs for Thunderbird and other similar email programs I can't find this subject addressed. Is anyone aware of a POP3 email program that functions similar to OE in this regard?

I use Thunderbird. It does support lists, and in fact the ONLY type of address it supports in a list are ones you enter. As you enter entries in the list it will prompt with matching address book entries, but once added they are standalone and there is no subsequent sync of list addresses with the address book.

All in all a minimalist approach, but adequate for my purposes.
