    MSN Messenger

How do I keep the MSN Messenger Service icon from loading in my tray every time I start up Outlook Express?

Within MSN Messenger there is a 'Start on startup' option. This needs to be turnd OFF.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

This preference stops MSN Messenger from running when Windows Starts. It will still start when OE is started.

The only other way to stop it from running is to clear the Passport Login Info.

    See here for details.

    Re: MSN Messenger

I too have this problem only I do not have a passport account. I cannot get to Messenger preferences because I do not have an account (and don't want one!!!) therefore it keeps wanting me to create one - I can get to the Provide Passport Information screen but that IS blank and the Remember name and PW block is not check. Yet, everytime I start OE, MSM Messenger appears in my system tray in "not signed in" status.

A search of the registry shows the messenger but nothing that I see that starts it (no RUN, RUNONCE, load=,run=, etc)

    Ideas?

Run msconfig...startup section, uncheck the box for MSN Messenger, apply, reboot.

it's in a run key, but maybe that's only after it's setup.

Turn off WM integration in OE and OL and don't show the contacts pane in OE.

I posted a inf edit a couple of months ago that allows you to uninstall it from add/remove programs.
