    Custom Listbox control (Access 2K)

I'm thinking of adding some functionality to my Access app that might require a custom listbox control. I definately would like to have a list box with check boxes in it, and I'm thinking I'd like to put a command button with a picture on it on each line of my list box as well.

I could do this with a continuous sub form, I suppose.

    My questions:

    1) Custom list box or continuous subform?
    2) If custom list box, which?

    Your thoughts much appreciated.

FYI, I've found the following custom list boxes:

    ListBox User Interface Functionality
    FlyTreeX from IMCA SYSTEMS
    OLETools from BeCubed Software
TList Pro from Bennet-Tec Information Systems, Inc.
    Basic Constituents from BeCubed Software
    BestofWare SmartUI from BestofWare
Component Toolbox OCX from DBI Technologies Inc.
Data Lookup - The List Box Killer from Appsoft (Pty) Ltd
    Data Widgets from Infragistics, Inc
FarPoint's List Pro from FarPoint Technologies
Mabry List/X Control from Mabry Software
ShComboBox Control ActiveX Control from Sky Software
True DBList Pro from ComponentOne (via the APEX and Videosoft merger)

Re: Custom Listbox control (Access 2K)

I always recommend against custom controls in Access, although I have used them in applications where they were necessary. There are two big problems with them: 1) they don't work the same way or as well as they do in VB, and 2) maintaining them and writing code against them is a nuisance. You would also need the developer's edition of Office and the appropriate license for the control in order to distribute it with an Access application. I would opt for the subform every time.

    Hi Jordan,

If you can find a way to use VBA or VB to get what you want it will be easier for the life of the program. However, when you need a custom list box look at this one: http://www.zealsoftstudio.com/ These people are great to work with and to make custom modifications if you need them.

    Hope this helps.

    Charlotte & Warren -

Thanks for your collective wisdom. Sounds like I should definately try to subform first and see if I run out of gas with it.
