    Hi,

I have a small question. In XP I was able to search the hard-drive for types of files, ie.. All Music files, all picture files, etc... Has this feature been removed in Win7's search, or am I too dense to figure it out?

    Thanks

    Hey there and welcome

You can search any extension (*.mp3, etc) if the folder is included in index it should be found. What exactly are you looking for?

In XP when you searched for, say, picture files, it would find all .jpg's, and .gif's, and .bmp's etc... Searching for music files would find .mp3's, and .wav's etc...
No extension was necessary, it found all files by type.

    Thanks

See if Windows Search Advanced Query Syntax helps.

Thanks everyone for your helpful suggestions here. I've resigned myself to the fact that that little feature is gone. However there are still plenty of ways to use MS search that will get me the results I need. No biggie. I guess I just got lazy with the 1-click method of XP. :^)

Actually I have resorted to using another method where I have a right click Find Files by a reg tweak calling an old program PDfind and it whips the Search in 7 by a long shot.
Finds content's in 114 files or so where 7 search will only find a few, MS don't want us to find I am guessing.
