Post considered complete by original poster?

Can the person who entered the post originally, mark the post as being answered / unanswered?

I've posted a few questions and nobody has been able to answer, but people might think that as it has responses to it that it is finished with?

    Hope i'm making sense!!

Just enter a reply in the normal way with the information you want to pass on.

A useful trick is to reply to your own email, e.g. saying something like "Wot, no answers". As most people's settings will be "sort by date" by default, this promotes your message back to the top of the list where someone might see it and answer.

The volume of posts can sometimes be a problem, as your message can soon get buried several pages down if no-one answers it.

You could also try adding more details/system information or rephrasing the question. Not only will this put you to the top of the pile, so to speak, but it will also possibly improve your chances of a reply.

But sometimes, when all the info is given, no one seems to answer. They 'read' the question, but no one even replies with ' I can't help you, perhaps one of the other members may have the answer for you'!
Or else they give just 1 answer which really doesn't help the person that requested help and they reply with 'Thanks, but that really isn't what I am looking for', or similar phrases. In turn, that person will wait for many days to see if an answer is given by others.
I have checked in the archives for various things, and have noticed quite a few unanswered questions and all the data was given. Then the poster gives up and seeks the answers elsewhere <img src=/S/frown.gif border=0 alt=frown width=15 height=15> and we never hear from that person again...with the thought that the person just gave up on receiving replies from The Lounge - not good <img src=/S/bummer.gif border=0 alt=bummer width=15 height=15>
    My <img src=/S/2cents.gif border=0 alt=2cents width=15 height=15>...for what it is worth.

Just imagine if 60 people read a post and replied, 'Sorry!', Heck of a long thread to no avail. I guess people just have to assume that those who have viewed the thread but not replied, don't know the answer.

Yeah, don't you hate it when you're desparate for a solution and you at last get email notification of a reply - only to find it's somebody telling you they can't help...

    <img src=/S/frown.gif border=0 alt=frown width=15 height=15> Sparky - but I would have thought that most people would have the common sense NOT to respond with 'Sorry, can't help'. I certainly don't reply like that. Oh well, I did say it was just my <img src=/S/2cents.gif border=0 alt=2cents width=15 height=15> worth. <img src=/S/sigh.gif border=0 alt=sigh width=15 height=15>
    <img src=/S/eileen.gif border=0 alt=eileen width=17 height=15>...that's why I don't use the email response facility. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
