This week I downloaded GMER Rootkit scanner. Every time I run a complete scan, my computer (Hal [9000]) goes to a black screen about in the middle of the scan. He does a complete reboot.

I have run scans with PC Tools' ThreatFire and F-Secure's On-Line scanner with no malware detected. Does Hal have a malware problem??? Or is there a problem with the GMER scanner???

    Hi :

Assuming you read through the "FAQs" at www.gmer.net , the Author
recommends you contact him at info@gmer.net . I do know that
interpreting the Results of One of their Scans is best done by an
experienced, CERTIFIED, V olunteer "Malware Removal Specialist"
found on many "Advanced Malware Removal Support Forums", such
as the One at GeeksToGo .

I had the same problem (re-booting) as well as, I think, some unexplained system hangups. This combined with the difficulty of interpreting scan results combined with the relative lack of documentation has convinced me that use of GMER is not something I want to pursue.

(I saw somewhere thanks to someone for an Italian version of the Help, but I can't find any help in any language).

GMER might be great, but it's not for me.
