    Greetings,

Just getting my feet wet with Win 7 ...

I really miss the black taskbar because it was easier to see the icons for an old baby-boomer like me. I've adjusted Window Colors, but can't seem to make it look like the Vista taskbar. Can anyone help?

Have you tried any different themes? Right click on the desktop & select "Personalize".

right click on desktop select personalize > select window Color option > Untick Enable Transparency > choose darkest color box > move color intensity fully to right > click on show color mixer > move all sliders fully to left > click on save changes.

Should now have an almost solid black task-bar now.

All typing errors are my own work and subject to patents pending. Except errors by the spell checker. And that has its own patients.

The solution is already posted. (see curiousclive post two blocks earlier)

Or, if you have the Aero transparent theme then just make sure you have a black wallpaper.

Yeah, that's what I've done with mine.
Then you can import whatever picture you want. keep the Aero and transparency in place.
Works so well for me I haven't touched it since installing.

If the picture you import is not black then task bar will show a different colour. Seems an odd solution to limit oneself to only a black wallpaper

    Your Right!

    It's my favorite picture.
I like to use black as my default background color too.

Now that I have to time to delve deeper into Win 7 ...

Curiousclive's solution (above) solved my taskbar problem, however when I open Word 2007 the ribbon and that obnoxious Office button are in black & white making the Office 2007 applications difficult to use. Is there a way I can have my cake and eat it too?

    Thanks in advance,
    Sam

I solved my problem. I unchecked Enable Transparency and selected desktop background U.S.

I'm not sure that the change in desktop background had anything to do with it. I did not have time to do further testing.
